Patch Borders

There are two types of borders for custom patches:
merrowed and diecut (cut-to-shape).

Merrowed Border (wrap around)

The most common type of border is a merrowed border, which wraps around the edge of the entire patch, and is always 1/8” in thickness. It is best for simple shapes, such as circles, squares, rectangles, etc.

Diecut (cut-to-shape)

A diecut border is cut to the shape of the design and is ideal for more complex custom shapes with many in-cuts and sharp angles. A diecut border can be as thick or thin as desired relative to the design.

Final Notes

There is no price difference between a merrowed and diecut borders We choose the border that is most appropriate for the design, unless you as the customer have a specific preference.

TIP: Many shapes are too complex to be merrowed. See above examples for basic shapes that can incorporate a merrowed border. You may request this type of border at the time of ordering or requesting a quote, however, our skilled patch artists will determine whether your shape is too complex, and may switch your patch to a diecut border if necessary.
